Bali: Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary
Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is our next place on the list. It is a Hindu temple complex of great importance to the church. Accordingly, you will find a lot of tourists here in addition to the locals who practice their faith.
There are 3 temples from the 14th century. Tourists are not allowed to enter the temples in the monkey forest sanctuary as they are reserved for the locals only, who are often seen in traditional robes.
Besides the many great trees and sculptures, there are monkeys, as well. 600 to 700. The monkeys feed mainly on sweet potatoes, but they are fond of other things as well such as bananas, papaya leaves, or fruits etc. In order to keep the monkeys healthy, one should not feed the monkeys, because this can get dangerous sometimes.
The monkey forest of Ubud welcomes around 10,000 tourists a month! That's why the monkeys here are quite tamed but have become more skilled in stealing stuff from the visitors. The monkeys will try to capture everything at once. And if you do not give it voluntarily, the macaques can become quite aggressive and extremely biting. You can always hear horror stories of careless tourists who had to be sewn after a bite. In addition, they can transmit hepatitis.
Since so many tourists are attracted to the monkey forest, you should get up early. This is the only way to enjoy the great atmosphere and not have to rush past the visitors.
