Our taxi driver was supposed to take us to the Rice Terraces, but accidentally let us out at a Luwak coffee farm. I think he did that on purpose to get a commission.
We did not notice that directly, so we visited a part of the coffee farm.

For those who have never heard of Kopi Luwak, here's a brief explanation: In Indonesia, a cat-like species known as Civet is found, which eats over-ripe coffee cherries, in addition to the fallen fruit, in a natural environment. Through the intestinal bacteria of the cats, the fruits and thus the coffee beans therein are naturally fermented, which should give the coffee a special flavor.

The coffee beans taken from the excrements of the animals are further processed and marketed worldwide at high prices under the label Kopi Luwak. However, many shoppers are unaware that behind some of the factories, there is a caged civet machinery that is positively fed with coffee cherries.

The short visit here told us how the coffee was traditionally made. This is only offered to tourists as most of them are industrially produced.

Since I'm not a coffee fan, I didn’t try it, but my friend Manuel did. His review about it was ok but not special.
